Come check out what it’s like to dive and hunt on the wind farms off Block Island. These structures aren't more than 13 years old and already they are covered in growth, attracting sea stars and mollusk eating fish like cunner and tautog, the plankton, krill and small shrimps congregate, bringing in the small baitfish which then attracts the bigger predatory and pelagic fish that pass by seasonally. Big fish, deep, cold water and murky green visibility reminds you that you sometimes have to push the limits, and sometimes you just want to.

Coming back from our morning dives on Sunday with lobsters in the live well and a newly certified diver, I spotted the tell tail sign of a Mola Mola, the lazy tail flap mimicking what’s often confused to be a shark fin breaking the surface.

The goal this summer season is the same as always, dive more, explore more. Jumping in this past weekend it really felt like the start of summer. The conditions were beautiful, with some excessive breeze here and there and some sea chop at times but all in all it was an epic weekend.

Out diving last weekend on the boat and we ended up finding some scattered and lost scallops that drifted away from their bed most likely in a winter storm. Scallops are great raw right out of the shell so grabbing a few when the opportunity presents itself is always a treat and worth the grab for a perfect snack from the salt. The scallops will pop a pucker, open up and look at you with the hundreds of eyes lining the edge of the shell and every so often you’ll find a little fish inside.
