Fog Monster Weekend
Written By Greg Lewandowski
Last weekend in July the easterly winds collected into a gentle breeze, just enough to push the cool sea air towards the warm land and compress it into a thick fog but not enough to blow it away. The eerie mist moved in and lasted all weekend. Navigating out to sea brought to life the fears only sailors know when entombed by a fog too thick to react to a poorly timed surprise. Eyes glued to and revolving between the radar, two chart plotters, heading, depth and two radio channels chattering alerts and warnings while horns from tankers at anchor blast their horns through the fog.
